What do you appreciate!??!?!
Do you ever find yourself looking at the sky, maybe on a starry night or at a full moon, and thinking about what a small bit of the universe this planet is? How we are floating along on this big ole rock we call earth while galaxies away we look like nothing more than a crumb or speck of dust? Do you ever wonder what life in other galaxies might be like? If they live like us? If they have drive thru's and instant everything? Do you ever stop to think about everything we take for granted? You know back all those years ago when I was much much younger than I am now we only had 3 channels and UHF on tv and yet somehow we survived. Pong was state of the art entertainment. You actually had to get out of the car to get something to eat or drink. We didnt have computers in classrooms (except a few places) we didnt all walk around with cell phones, Satelite radio wasnt around and niether were MP3 players, ipods or digital cameras. There werent portable dvd players because there werent any DVD's. And these are all "convenience things" Funny thing is that we didnt feel so inconvenienced when we didnt have them then, but many feel completely lost without them now. My oh my how times have changed. The older generations can even go further back and look at what they didnt have. It's easy to live without something that wasnt even around, but many of us would be confused and clueless without our modern tools. How many of you cant go a day without your cell phone? Do you think about going inside for food or to pick up or drop something off if there is a drive thru lane available? Will you wait longer in your car than it would take to walk inside and order just so you dont have to get out of the car? There's really no need to feel down about it, we're all used to the way things are and the rapidly changing world keeps making it easier to do everything faster and better. But, do we appreciate it? Do we appreciate the modern conveniences we have at our disposal? Probably not. So I have a suggestion. Go to the park,Take a walk, watch a sunset, read a book, gaze at the stars or the moon, watch the rainfall just do something that really doesnt involve those modern day conveniences. Apprecate the outdoors. Dont throw them away or anything like that, but just go for a stroll with your cellphone off or something. Take in what surrounds you everyday and enjoy it. You may just find yourself enjoying the good life without much of what you think makes your life good, even if it's only for a few moments. Technology is a wonderful thing, and we keep improving things on a daily basis but...
You still gotta think that when they said stop and smell the roses for the first time all those years ago, that they were onto something. Take a step back while you keep moving forward. Dont forget to appreciate the things that dont need to be charged up, plugged in, uploaded, or downloaded... You just might find out that stopping to smell those preverbial roses is the best way to appreciate what you're not doing at the time. And you may just find a new appreciation for not only what it is that you have and use daily but for the time you have away from that enjoying the great outdoors that we all share.
